Our gemstone globe paperweights are of the finest quality and will last from one generation to another. This unique gemstone globe is made from semi-precious stones from all over the world. Oceans made of black onyx surrounded by a mosaic of landmasses in turquoise, malachite, red coral, jade, mother-of-pearl, and amethyst, among others. Gemstone globes are crafted of hand-cut, hand-fitted semi-precious stones delineating land and ocean with gold and silver inlays for latitude and longitude lines. Each gemstone globe paperweight is handmade and takes approximately 4-8 weeks to produce. All globes are made using the same procedure regardless of the size of the globe. Semi-precious stones are selected from countries around the world and where possible depict the country of origin. The globe is then buffed and polished to form a smooth surface before the meridian and date lines are added with a fine gold or silver thread. The names of the countries and geographical features are then added and the globe is sealed in a protective resin coating. To clean, use a soft cloth with a small amount of rubbing alcohol to shine and remove fingerprints. Do not use rubbing alcohol on metal base or stand; it's too harsh. Instead, use a soft cotton cloth with a very small amount of hand lotion to remove fingerprints. Then, use a clean, dry cloth to wipe away lotion and shine. The whole piece is approx. 4.5'' in diameter.
